4 Simple Ways to Give Back

by Fallbrook Directory Mar 30, 2020

Although COVID-19 has led to many state-wide "stay at home" orders, there are still so many ways to connect to others and give back to your community, and to do so safety. Fallbrook is "the Friendly Village" for a reason – we are all about being neighborly to others and doing what we can to help others out in whatever way they need it. Here are four of our favorite ways to give back!

4 Ways to Give Back

1. Donate to the local food pantry.

While we're also major advocates for showing up and volunteering, not everyone is able to leave their homes right now. As we are a few weeks into the "stay at home" order, you may be realizing that there are a few items in your pantry that no longer fit your dietary preferences or taste palette. Donate what you no longer need or want to your local food pantry, especially as many people have been unable to find such necessities due to so many product shortages.

2. Donate to the local animal shelter.

Animal shelters are always in need, especially during times of crisis. Whether it's a cash donation, spare blankets, extra food, or leashes and toys, every bit adds up! Be sure to call your local animal shelter to see what they're in need of; even $5 can help to support and feed a number of dogs.

3. If you're shopping for necessities on Amazon, switch to Amazon Smile.

Amazon Smile is an extension of Amazon that donates a percentage of all sales to the charity of your choosing at no additional cost to you. Change your browser preferences to direct to Amazon Smile rather than Amazon, and see the impact you can make add up!

4. Spread good news.

A little positivity goes a long way. With many of us watching the news 24/7 and with negativity affecting a number of social media platforms, taking a minute to share positive news will be sure to put a smile on someone's face. Whether it's a funny video of your pet, a recent milestone your child reached, or just a simple anecdote from your day, sharing what is close to your heart is a great way to give back to those around you.

Regardless of your budget or time restrictions, there is always a way to give back. We hope this list inspires you, but don't hesitate to get creative! Involve your children, friends, or neighbors and start community-wide initiatives. There is always room for extra positivity and support, and your actions help to keep Fallbrook's status as "the Friendly Village."
