Whether you're starting your day or ending it, no matter the season, a smoothie is a great, refreshing snack to reach for. They're packed with nutrients, vitamins, and health benefits ranging from increased energy to antiinflammation and blood sugar stabilization. It's also no secret that Fallbrook is known for their abundance of avocados that grow effortlessly each year, and avocados are the perfect ingredient to add to your smoothies for a healthy dose of fat, fiber, and potassium.

In honor of the fruit that put us on the map and in celebration of the annual Fallbrook Avocado Festival, we partnered with X to provide you with the recipe for the Fallbrook Smoothie.

What Makes the Fallbrook Smoothie So Special

The combination of protein powder and dark, leafy greens, which provide a healthy dose of fiber, will leave you feeling full for hours. Adding in a healthy fat will keep your brain functioning at its' best – this recipe calls for coconut oil, but you could substitute with avocado oil, nut butter, or MCT oil based upon your dietary or flavor preferences.  The cucumber balances out the sweetness of the apple. Lastly, the avocado and almond milk provides a creamy, rich base suitable for most dietary preferences. Ice can be omitted, but adds the perfect amount of refreshment on a hot summer day.

We've included three options for garnish, which can also be blended into your smoothie for ease and time management when you're on the go. Not only do they add beauty to your blended drink, but each garnish on the ingredient list packs a nutritious punch, too. Coconut flakes stabilize your blood sugar, improve immunity, and are a rich source of fiber. Chia seeds not only thicken up smoothies, but they are an excellent source of iron, calcium, and antioxidants. Lastly, flax seeds are another form of fiber that are high in omega-3 fats. Each of the garnishes we've listed can be bought in bulk at your local health food store.

We hope you enjoy this recipe, and for more nutritious tips and tricks, be sure to check out X.

Cheers!
